Laundry is something done so often we hardly have time to think about how much it actually costs. Knowing how to stretch your powder laundry detergent will save you hundreds of dollars each year, and that’s something worth the time. There are a few tricks that can make laundry more rewarding and fun too. Here are a few ways that you can stretch your powder laundry detergent.
What you’ll need:
1 box value brand 3LB or 5lb powder laundry detergent
2 lb baking soda
1 lb washing soda
1 lb borax (optional)
Purex or other scent crystals
In a large bag (small garbage bag) add detergent, baking soda, baking powder, borax and scent crystals.
Knot the bag at the top to leave ample space.
Shake the mixture vigorously and thoroughly.
Empty contents of the bag into a large container with lid or cover.
For a stronger mixture effective for stubborn stains, add a small tub or oxygen booster and 1 cup of bleach powder preferably one that is safe for colored clothes.
Powder laundry detergents like arm and hammer, gain and tide are stronger brands so you can stretch them a little further by adding an extra lb of washing and baking soda. Now you have doubled your powder detergent and perhaps made it stronger. This mixture is safe for all clothes and costs less that the box of detergent. Use this mixed detergent just the same as you would your regular brand. This method of stretching can save you a lot of money especially if you have to do a lot of laundry each week. If you are interested in saving on dish liquid too here’s how to do so.
